Figure it out
I’m not good with numbers or at least that’s what I tell myself — keeps me away from those painful looking fractions and square roots. ( I like my roots a little squiggly.) A hypotenuse can give me a headache and I prefer my pi with an “e” at the end of it.
But we really can’t get away from numbers; numbers are everywhere around us — and in us. After all, the geo in geometry means Earth and Earth is our home which is a sphere. It has a certain mass and density, proportions. It rotates and it spins through space at certain velocities. The spinning makes the days and the rotation makes the years.
Did you know that the Moon is 400 times smaller than the Sun and also 400 times closer to Earth than the Sun? That’s why we can witness total eclipses.
Music like astronomy, geometry and physics is a numbers game. Different tones have different frequencies and waveforms all which can be measured and known. Intervals and chords resonate in harmony or in dissonance depending on what numbers the sounds correspond to. Therefore, numbers vibrate.
Go outside. Is it dark? Then bring a blanket. Spread it out on the wet grass and lie down. Now you are looking up. It’s not cable TV; it’s not the electric fuzz box circus. It is the Feature Presentation there for all to see.
So free, so beautiful, so few people doing it…
Stargaze. It’s the real Wheel of Fortune.
